Making her Open Air Theatre debut, director Maria Aberg is set to inject something new into the cult musical, Little Shop of Horrors. A ‘bold force in British theatre’ (BroadwayWorld), Aberg has developed a reputation for tackling challenging pieces, but always with her own spin.
A stalwart at the RSC, her productions of Dr Faustus (complete with a cabaret style scene for the Seven Deadly Sins), and her Glastonbury-esque As You Like It, garnered both critical acclaim and delighted audiences with originality and style.
Aberg’s production of Roald Dahl’s classic, Fantastic Mr Fox, was ‘full of gusto and glee, not afraid of playing up to the author’s penchant for the gruesome’ (Independent), and her latest production The Duchess of Malfi at the RSC was ‘so bloody you need a blanket’ (Guardian) – so we can’t wait to see what she does with Little Shop of Horrors!
